Straightening hair?

My daughter is of mixed heritage with curly yet soft hair. I have been told by co workers not to use a relaxer for african americans because her hair is not coarse. I tried a straightener for caucasion hair and it didn't work. A friend told me that her and her friends straightened their hair with perm solution, combing it over and over to eventually relax the curls resulting in straight hair. Does this really work and is there chance of serious damage? In the 90's I had a perm removed by using perm solution combed through my hair and it turned out really well. Any suggestions?

Straightening hair?

Chemical Straighteners are a perm solution, only they keep combing the hair stright instead of putting them on curlers. I would say call a salon and get their advice, even if you don't get it done there.
