Dealing with damaged hair?

I dyed my hair about three years ago and it hasn't been the same since! My hair is currently about an inch below my shoulder. There are no split ends, but half-way down my head to the ends my hair is damaged and extremely brittle and dry. I shampoo mainly my roots every other day (so as not to over-sud the ends), condition the ends everyday with a hydrating conditioner, deep condition about twice/week, spray an anti-breakage solution into my hair, only use a wide-toothed comb, use a hot-oil treatment once/week, stay out of the sun and don't use any heat products, eat well and take a multivitamin, and also trim off about an inch every 6 weeks. It seems like if there is even just an inch of dead hair at the ends, it creeps back up and I'm back to where I started. I've searched around and read similar questions on these forums, but haven't found any luck yet. I'd appreciate any other advice out there! And please don't suggest shaving my head or cutting my hair above my ears, haha =)

Have you tried cutting of the fried hair. I have a feeling you are afraid of short hair, but remember it is only hair it will grow back, and it will look alot healthier. You can also try hot oil or a cholesrterol hair mask. I am not sure whay ethnicity you are, but I have found that some times hair products in the ethnic hair section work well for damage.

i would go to a salon and ask for help, becuase it seems you're doing everything right, and it shouldn't be like that!

Dealing with damaged hair?

maybe you're washing you hair too much. it could be a number of things. go to walmart and buy queen helene's cholesterol conditioner. it's great for very damaged hair. try to wear your hair in low maintenance styles. use as little heat as possible, maybe keep some leave in conditioner on your ends...it could actually be a number of things. you will have to keep at it until you find something that works.
