I have crazy curly hair too!! It's taken me about 24 years to really enjoy it though!

What i've noticed is that its not so much about the shampoo you use, as it is the conditioner. Especially if you are blow drying or using some other source of heat. My top few recommendations for conditioners would be:

1) Anything Pantene.... its pretty thick, and its great becauase you can let it sit for a few minutes while you wash your body or shave or something and its like a mini conditioning treatment.

2) herbal essences.... also pretty thick.

3) tresemme

4) paul mitchell green trea..... fabulous. pricey, but wonderful.

as far as the combing goes, what i always do is put the conditioner on in the shower, then comb my hair while the conditioner is in place. I know they say not to brush your hair in the shower BUT the conditioner acts as a lubricant so the knots come out easier. good luck!
