I have thick hair and would like to mix up my styling with mousse. Please list any suggestions my hair is a medium length to my shoulders. Also I don't have a perm my hair is really straight. I use a hot comb and my hair is not frizzy and is a smooth texture.

I would use a pick/comb and some leave-in conditioner to help with tangles.
You are NEVER supposed to brush wet hair - but it is alright to use a fine toothed comb, as long as you don't pull at any tangles. When your hair is dry, brushing it is actually really healthy, as it spreads the natural oils from the scalp, throughout the hair. Good luck :)

Okay when I was younger my hair was very long, to the middle of my back. Then when I turned 10 or 11 my mom started letting me do my own hair. I soon started pulling alot of my hair out each time I combed it but I didn't think anything of it. Now I'm 12 and it seems like I have a bad grade of hair because it's short and is growing back really slow. So now I go to get braids in my hair (cornrows, individuals, etc..). Is there anything I can do to get my pretty hair back??
Wash and condition your hair every two weeks . Get your ends trimmed every three months . Get your hair straight in between getting braids and some time take a break from having braids. Try going to the going to the hair salon and getting your hair done.
I would say that some hair, skin, and nail vitamins would help u also every two weeks or so at home using a mask for ur hair to get that healthy feeling back. hope i helped :-)
I would let my mom do it again. Besides, it sounds like you're brushing too hard; hair naturally falls out but a lot while brushing isn't good.
The growth rate of your hair may just naturally slow down but i would ask my mom about family traits.
Do a hot oil masage on you scalps and then proceed towards your tresses. Leave it on for 2-3 hrs and then wash your hair shampooing twice if necessary. Do this procedure every alternate day for a week and you will see the results. I started out doing alternate days and now i just do it on the weekends. It really helps hair growth and makes your hair soft and shiny.

I am in my mid twenties and had very damaged hair but this is what I did. I got all of my hair cut off professionally by a stylist in April of 06. It was about 1/2 inch long. I went to the stylist every week to get it re curled. When it got long enough I went and got it braided. It grew back so much. I got my ends trimmed every 6 weeks. Now my hair is past my shoulders. My hair is in the best shape it has ever been. I can even go with relaxers. I don't know if your mom would let you get your hair cut but trust me it will grow back. You should also see a stylist who is professional and will help you take good care of your hair. Also if you keep getting braids they will cause your hair to break of as well. Good luck!!

I would talk to your doctor because sometimes hair loss can be a symptom of some underlying disease. Like i have hypothyroidism and PCOS both cause hair loss. I have been lucky in that area though because I never had that problem, but I thought I should mention it.

That happens to me also. It is nothing to be worried about, it happens to everyone. Also I do not know the weather where you live, but here it is starting to get warmer and then hair naturally falls out. It is just a normal thing that the body does to prepare for the warm weather. Do not sweat it.
I started losing my hair at around 19 or 20. I went to the dermatologist to see if there could be any hormonal/illness issues, but it turns out it was just early female pattern baldness. Both my parents are COMPLETELY bald (mom too) so it was compounded in my genes and I started young.
If it's pattern baldness, the hair loss will mostly be from the top, but the sides will be thicker (just like a bald man.) If it's a systemic problem it may be from all over the scalp. See a dermatologist if you're not sure! Whenever I can afford it, I'm going to get transplantation surgery to move some of the hairs on the side to the top...I hope it works!
I would suggest going to the doctors if I were you. It could be something small like you need to take more vitamins or it could be another more serious condition which could be cured a lot easier if you get it treated sooner. The longer you go on loosing hair th longer it will take to grow back so make sure to see a doctor soon. Good luck.
The person i heard it from said that all u have to do is comb ur hair straight for the amount of time they say to leave it up there and then do what it says. And ur hair will be straight. Is this true???
My advice as a person who grew up in our family salon is to have a professional stylist check the condition of your hair first and have a professional do the straightening job. They have so much more pro striaghtening solutions that differ from actual perm solutions. Trust me...don't do it and find out you fried your hair and it all breaks off. I've seen it happen...not pretty.

basically yes, read the box first and find the one best for your hair, DO NOt leave it in longer than the recommended time. You just apply the relaxer to your hair(by combing it through) than wait roughly 25-30 minutes and was it out with the shampoo they give you. make sure you buy a relaxer and try to get one with no lye.

i recently had my hair braided up and i just took them down and my hair is SO tangled i cannot comb it properly ive tried detanglers but nothing works! i dont know what to do. are there ANYMORE suggestions!? :-(
Try a ton of conditioner. I once had really detangled hair and I had to use like 8 handfulls of conditioner. So conditioner is your best bet. Be sure to have a comb at your side in the shower.
Then again once I got a comb stuck in my hair (i was 8) and I couldn't get it out (tried everything) so I had to get it cut off. Yeah... never using that comb again. Well at least it's not gum.

I have naturally curly hair and it tangles easily. Best thing for me to do is to take a comb to my hair in the shower and work the conditioner thru the hair with the comb. The water softens the hair...just don't pull too hard! The conditioner slicks the hair and makes it easier to untangle.
Get in the bathtub and put a lot of conditioner on your hair then put your head under the water and use a pick to slowly comb your hair starting at the bottom ends working in small sections moving towards your scalp as the sections become untangled. Do not force or rip at the hair. Stop every once in awhile to add more conditioner. Good luck.
You'll have to wash your hair afterwards, but a little bit of olive oil, or almond oil will make the hair not tangle as much. I find that if i comb my hair when wet (even with detangler) it just bunches and hurts more. If you have it, baby oil also works. Just be sure to wash gently afterwards.

After you wash your hair with shampoo, but on some condition for about ten minutes then wash it off after ten minutes with kind of cool water. Then get out of the shower it should detangle with a wide tooth comb if it doesn't, then put some leave in condition and then comb it out with a wide tooth comb. If you use a brush, the bristles are too close together. Good luck!

I would wet your hair with water either in the shower or under the kitchen faucet and wrap in a towel just enough to absorb the major water then unwrap towel and put a good size dab of hair conditioner in the palm of your hand and rub hands together lightly then massage hands all through your hair and wrap hair back in towel for 3-5 min. then take towel off and starting at the bottom of your hair comb with wide tooth comb and work your way up to your scalp! If you have oily hair you may want to rinse conditioner out with warm water but if not just leave it in until the next time you shampoo! Good Luck!

put your head under the running water and brush out the top of your hair while the water is running through it

i do this after every cheer competiion where i have at least 150 tight curlers a whole can of hairspray and EXTREMELY thick hair... so this is a proven method!!

Try using a condition and a fine toothed comb...it will take a while but will be worth it if you don't want to cut your hair...my hair is past my waist and very fine...so sometimes it tangles easy too. I also used that method on two very long haired dogs I rescued years ago..I worked for 22 hours on the one dogs fur...and 24 on the other...not at one time..it took me days! They were very neglected when we got them! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR HAIR !

I had very matted, tangled hair. I read to use a heavy hair grease or olive oil. I tried the olive oil and it made it a little easier but it still hurt so I added lots of my hair conditioner to it and it worked so much better. It took me about an hour or two to comb through the tangles working from bottom to top it was messy but a lot less painful. Use a wide tooth comb first to work out the tangles then your brush. You will have to wash your hair after wards and if you have long hair do not ever pile it on top of your head when washing or conditioning it. It also helps as you are rinsing it out to comb or brush through it. My hair was very soft and well conditioned after I did all this. Good luck!
Take small sections and then try to pull apart with your fingers then fine a braid detangler spray and wet it real good and use a wide tooth comb and pic it dont try to comb it out with the first pull.

Try Johnson's detangling spray to detangle the hair after washing it, and then spray in some L'oreal anti-frizz spray and brush it through the hair. That should do it ^^.
Frizz serum can help. You can find it at drugstores or places like WalMart. Beware of the cheapest brands, they don't always work.

You can use normal hair conditioner on My Little Pony hair. Wet the hair, taking care not to get any inside the pony (getting water in the top of the tail can lead to tail rust and water trapped inside ponies can cause mould to develop). Hair loss after child birth is completely normal. It will continue for sometime too. Mine started falling out at about 5 months after birth and slowed down after about 18 months. Don't stress, just continue to take your prenatal vitamins.
Ask your hair dresser. There is a shampoo and conditioner that helps with the problem of hair falling out/thinning hair.(Sorry can't remember the name) It's only sold in salons and you only use a small amount of each. It cost about $20/bottle.
This is absolutely normal. Mine came out in clumps. Just make sure to take vitamins. I also cut my hair shorter so it could grow back thicker.

ok im a bit weird..i have a phobia of hairdressers and salons (its true)..i always bring my own hair cutting scissors, brush /combs, spray bottle and any hair styling products with me..anyways yesterday i went and got my hair trimmed after a year..i went to a high end salon and my mom was with me..the stylist was pulling on my hair with the comb and she was rushing it..i had wet hair and i could feel my hair breaking..this might be not seem like a big deal for people with short hair but mine is waist length and im growing it longer..when i brush my hair at home i take 30-40 mins to detangle and 10 mins to brush..i might just give up on the going to the salon and just trim my own hair..i'm just really sad =(
That's not acceptable... i would say trim your own hair, or get your mom or a friend to do it. if your hair is all one length than this should be easy. If you want them to be gentle, just say it. or you can get your mom to lol

pick a stylist by calling around to several first and tell them u r tender headed and that your hair is very long and fragile and tht you are looking for a new stylist because you are tired of the last one pulling your hair hard and breaking it and ask them if they are willing to be gentle with you..also make sure you purchase a very high quality pair of scissors designed to be used by a professional from a beauty supply store as regular scissors will damage your hair a lot..if the stylist doesnt sound like they are willing to take u seriously over the phone then call another one if they sound like they might be ok then tell them to set u up with an appointment and tell them u will give them a try and will come back to them only if they do a good job and dont break your hair. honestly what u really need to find is a gay male hairdresser as they tend to be more sensitive what you have been experiencing in the past is dressers that are actually jealous of your hair who were damaging it on purpose or on an unconcious level.
I am a retired Hairdresser. I would have sprayed your hair with a de-tangler, this helps with the tangles because it lays the cuticle down and causes the hair to feel smoother. I would also use a wide tooth comb so the hair would not pull and break off. If this Hairdress was hurting you or actually breaking your hair you need to speak up and tell her. I would have never wanted to intentionaly hurt someone in all the years I did hair. I loved my work and wanted my customers to love coming to me. Maybe try another Hairdresser, if telling this one does not work. There are many wonderful hairdressers out there. I actually have found two I just love and that is something for an x-hairdreser. All dogs that have two or more types of hair shed continually. The hair that is called their undercoat is what comes out the most, the inner softer coat/hair keeps them warm in the winter and the outer hair/coat protects them from the elements. They just shed more in the spring and fall when they blow out their summer and winter coats and get new ones. Brushing daily is a good idea, but it is a constant thing and will not go away. If you mean it is getting bald spots it might have a skin problem and then I would strongly suggest you take it to be seen by a veterinarian. Also, times of stress will cause them to shed out more hair than usual.

Well unless you are used to German Shepherds, I guess the dog is simply moulting ... I have an 11 year old GSD and she moults around twice a year .... it seems to go on and on and on! Hair everywhere ... combing every hour will help shed the hair but not stop the loss. It's simply hard work! My hoover is my best friend at these times ... it's simply something you have to cope with if you want a great best friend!
It's probably normal in this weather but check to see if he isn't stressed, dogs generally lose hair when they are frightened the idea being that anything that bites them gets a mouthful of hair.

Most dogs shed, and as the weather gets hotter, they shed more. They also shed when stressed, physically and emotionally. If he's not getting any down time or play time, then he could be stress shedding.
The other alternative is that his diet is lacking. I give my dogs Linatone (I buy it from the pet store) in their food at night. It doesn't stop the shedding, but it makes slows it up a bit.
my dog sheds its hair twice a year... in winter and coming into the summer ,its all natural and nothing to worry about.
We had a dog that was losing a lot of his hair. The vet told us it was a dietary problem. You might want to check with your Vet and see if they can find out if your dog has a dietary problem. We also would add 1 egg and some wheat germ oil to his food everyday, that helped his coat look healthy and shinney.

I use the dog rake once daily then, once weekly, I use Shed Brush to brush the loose fur. I feed Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed L%26amp;R (Lamb %26amp; Rice). They have the soften furs. So, maybe try that. I am no expert, but from experience. Maybe also ask the vet for more advice. Some people use Oil. I used to use oil. But, I don't anymore. Also, how many times do you bath your dog? If you bath your dog too much, I think maybe it will loose furs too much. Or, maybe your vet can prescribe you some medicine shampoo or medicine, or go see a Specialist Dermadologist for dogs. Hope your dog will be fine.

its that time of year. GSD's have a double layer coat. The harsh outer coat which protects it from the rain and wind etc, its dense undercoat keeps it warm. The dog will be loosing this part of his coat, and believe me, there is alot of that coat to lose!

If you have curly hair, brushing it will only frizz it out so I recommend you brush it before getting in the shower. Brushing your hair before washing it helps release loose hair and enables a better cleansing too. It helps with circulation of blood flow in the scalp, which is good for hair growth. Good circulation is essential in keeping hair follicles healthy, which helps keep your hair on your head! Brushing long hair keeps it tangle free too, just common sense.

Basically, I caught head lice off of a friend, since then I treated my hair twice and have been combing twice a week. I found nothing live since finding once head louse three weeks ago, any eggs that I found were brown and I couldn't pop, which therefore meant that the treatment killed the eggs as they were dead. I was doing my twice a week check up and found three eggs that I could pop, but nothing live. I seriously don't know what to do. I know that person that has got lice, so my best bet is I caught them off her again and that there is an adult lice laying eggs. I have not found anything live, but I need to re trea my hair right ?

you need to treat the environment your living also.. make sure you wash all your bedding and hoover.. stop going near your friends head, and get her some damn nit lotion.. thats nasty that she's got them and not doing anything about it.. all you can do is go to your GP for stronger lotion and keep brushing daily with a nit lotion
I've never had lice, but i remember the problem with them is that they infest linnens, clothing and any other fiberous surface they can jump onto. In addition to treating your scalp, you're going to be doing an awful lot of laundry...
After you get rid of them again, you need to stay away from that person. Unless they clean up thier act.

I have really curly hair naturally and I use "I Create" straightening irons, they really work. Also use straightening creams and relaxers. Anti frizz serum/smoothing serum. Always use a good conditioner if using irons and a heat defence spray. I also use a leave in conditioner. I use a clarifying shampoo now and then to prevent product build up. Hope that helps!

depends on the texture and length of hair you have.
if it is super coarse and wiry you might need a hot comb; a flat iron might not get hot enough to get your hair completely straight.
make sure hair it totally dry before hot comb or flat iron.
make sure hair is protected from heat with both (with 'grease' or other product).
make sure the relaxer is strong enough (with out being too strong) for your hair.
what shampoo/conditioner are you using? make sure it's something good. i prefer mizani products for ethnic type hair. and , yes , i also use them on 'white' people (one client from australia , one from new zealand , and one woman with pink skin and wiry hair(american woman)).

ahh! i love sarah paxton!! Anyways, i figured out how to get that hairstyle nice yesterday. You have to put 2-3 braids in yer hair, depending on the thickness. You have to kind of hang your head upside down n braid the top half/third of your hair. It makes it not so flat. I like normal braids better than french, they turn out better. This best thing to do is to get a deep conditioner done after you have washed it. Next, find a great moisturizer to use on your hair. I have tried different ones because I wear the wavy look a great deal. I am currently using the olive oil moisturizer. There are so many good ones out there nowadays. I suggest experimenting with the different moisturizers to see which does the best for your hair. Trust me, it will work!
I'm only in my early 20's and my hair has been turning gray since I was a preteen. I have a younger sibling (a brother) whose hair has been turning gray since he was 10! What's the deal-- my mom's hair didn't start to change color until she was 30, and my dad's didn't start until he was well into his 30's. I also know that his mom (my grandma) still had very dark hair (no graying) until she was in her 50's (my family is from a very poor country and having hair dye was a luxury).

Gray hair is almost entirely based on genetics, so don't worry, it's probably not a a medical condition. Your parents did turn gray pretty young. It usually starts around 40. Just to be careful though, some medical conditions cause premature graying, such as anemia (iron deficiency) and thyroid problems. Eat a lot of vitamin B12, if you don't get enough of that your hair can turn gray faster. Oh, by the way, my math teacher was almost completely bald at the age of 25. Grayness is better than baldness. You can try henna dye, I heard it covers gray very well but sometimes you get a reddish tint.

if you want a quick fix, there was a product at long's that was just for roots or gray hair and it was a mascara (different product for light and dark hair) hair dye type thing that you could just put over the hair and it would work just like dye. it was under $10...you should try that for less hassle

well it's probably not a medical condition but you could, possibly, make some changes to your diet or habits to lessen the grey. my husband says that if you eat a lot of tomatoes it helps, and he's usually right on. also, the obvious one, stress, will make you get more grey hairs, so, it would seem to follow that the happier you are the less grey hairs, at least in part. so, diet and lifestyle. good luck! otherwise i'd say just go with it and try to make it a positive part of your look.

To keep the veil in your hair you can braid a small section of your hair and place the comb of your beil into it. secure with bobby pins going in a cris cross pattern. I wore my hair like that for my wedding, and I do hair on site for lots of weddings.

Yeah, without shaving, the only other way is to wax it off, or use a tweezer and pull them off. And yes, it will hurt. And if you don't do it right, you could get ingrown hairs (hairs that grow underneath the skin, and causing an infection). Man, I wish you parents would understand how bad it is for you. About three years ago I bought two hair clips made by a company called Stylee; they are suitable for medium or long hair, made with two curved combs which are sewn on to a decorative piece of stretch fabric, like a scrunchie. On a personal level, I prefer updo's for events like this - only because it's up, it's out of my face, and I don't have to worry about my hair getting flyaway, falling flat, etc. With that said, you can't go wrong with a simple french twist. They're easy to do - or to have a hairdresser do for you - they're sleek, sophisticated and your fine hair will hold it - and as an added bonus, the twist will give your hair a little extra thickness to really help anchor that comb in!! That's simply my two cents on it, anyway.

I think the styles you chose are lovely, but based on how you described your hair you may not be happy with it half way through the wedding. My hair is straight as well and if i even get it to curl, it is a flop within a hour! 6 weeks from now, the weather may be pretty warm still, so that may *** to the 'flop'. Something you may want to try, that you could still use the comb with, would be a low (near the bottom of your skull) bun type twist which is 'off center' . It would not be a side bun, but somewhere between the back and side. I'm 15 and i have super thick hair which poofs out. I comb it over like a "bob" style and it flips out at the ends, and is about the same length as my avatar's. The only way to keep it somewhat flat is to wear a beanie in the morning which holds it down, but it usually poofs out again by the end of the day, or if it's humid. I wash it everyday very thoroughly and condition it as well with Garnier products. To try to help this, i get my hair thinned out when ever i get my hair trimmed (4-6 months or so), but it doesnt seem to make too much of a difference. I was wondering if there was any way to keep it laying flat or make it thinner. Also, since its thick, it tends to stay put, and i was wondering if there was any way to make it more "flowing" and silky. Any tips?
I've got really thick, wavy hair too, it looks exactly like my avatar's, and I tame it first off by asking my beautician to thin it out, and usually she uses a razor to kind of "feather" my ends, making my hair much lighter and not as poofy. I also use Nexus "Sleektress sumptuous smoothing" shampoo and Nexus "Humectress ultimate moisturizing" conditioner, which is found in any Wal-Mart, Walgreens, or Target. These combined make my hair much more soft and smooth and it seems to be more "flowing". Also, if you don't mind seeming a little metro (ha) you could invest in a straightening iron. I have a Chi which isn't cheap but makes my hair straight and silky, but you could try an inexpensive one (maybe $20 ish) from any of those stores I listed above and run that through it in the morning... it'll last all day long and that alone would work wonders.

You do know your not supposed to wash your hair daily right? It makes your hair shaft very weak and it depletes your hair of it's natural oil. Your supposed to wash your hair every 5-7 days.
Your hair is probably damaged. You need to get it cut off. Or trim off one inch every month.
A hair stylist can thin it for you but you will have to have it done on a regular basis. Also get a stylist that you trust so they won't cut it all off if you are trying to keep it long or grow it longer.

You can get your hair thinned and they just use a razorblade to thin it out..or i use this straighting balm from redken that straightens my hair and makes it not frizz at all throughout the day. I also use this silk infusion stuff from chi and it makes your hair really soft and makes it feel thinner. Hope i helped!

Semi permanent is less damaging than permanent because it doesn't contain peroxide. It is natural to lose hair. Science says we all lose at least 100 hairs a day.
If you use this stuff alot, it kills your hair cells. Your hair falls out, but it will grow back. Dont worry you wont be bald. Lol, sorry I just had to say that. I do reccomend you dont use it as much. Hope this helps.
semi's and demi's don't usually break hair. it may be a different reason, diet, medication, sheading, aging...life stress.
I used semi permanent hair dye for about 3 years (usually every other month) and my hair never seemed damaged hardly at all. If you take good care of your hair its probably fine.

There are new relaxers that have just come out that texturize the hair. They are intended for children but adults can use them as well. However, i suggest you go to a professional and ask her/him to give you a very texturizer. This can be done with a normal relaxer just combed thru the hair without alot of manipulating and straightening. If you want to do it yourself, look for those new texture relaxers.
try FRIZZ ESE its a range of product for frizzy hair, you can use it wet or dry and it does not make the hair look greasy it defines the curls i couldnt cope without it.

I think there are several contributing factors why your hair isn't growing the way It should. Dryness is definitely a contributing factor but I have a solution for you. First Don't wash your hair for a couple of days just so all its natural oils will be restored. Also do not use a straightner every day. Just use it every other day and see what difference it will make. Another thing you can do is use mayonnaise on your hair on a daily basis. I know it sounds awkward but mayonnaise serves as a coating which helps restore hair's shine, health, it is a great moisturizer, and it adds essential nutrients to your hair. Trim your hair at least once a month just to get rid of any extra breakage and split ends, also use a leave in conditioner and don't wash your hair more than every 2 days. With these tips you will have long beautiful shiny hair. You will look glam and fab!!
Lot of brushing. Forget the straightener for now because your hair is over processed. Clip just the split ends because your hair is concentrating on repairing itself and not growth.
When hair is dry, it becomes brittle and breaks a lot, that's one reason. You should not use blow dryer, straightener, any kind of heat provider. Use PH balanced shampoo and leave in conditioner. Get hair cut at least 2 inches. to get rid of the tips.

I'm 21, and I'm experiencing a LOT OF hair loss these days; each time I put my finger in my hair I pull at least 3 good hairs, which aren't even thin or sth to say they're falling off naturally. For the thin hairs, believe me, my comb is pretty much like a head now. My scalp became extremely itchy and oily lately, especially in the crown area.
It's been the exams period, and I've put myself under a tremendous pressure; I'm anxious most of the time, don't sleep well and I don't eat well. I know those are all good reasons for hair to fall off. But what about the itch and oil? and also, if I started sleeping and eating well when my exams period is over, will my hair grow back again?
Please let me know if this is caused by DHT or anything u think it's the reason behind it all.

When you wake up and before you go to bed. Just gently massage the scalp about 5 minutes if you can all over feeling all areas of the scalp so you get the blood circulating perfectly. But no it does not harm your hair.
you can do what you want with it and it will grow.. my biggest pee off is women who use the same bloody elastics bands you buy in bulk for everything but hair..they will damage the hair... use elastics for hair and you wont have problems...if you want to grow it out as i am after a short cut...... just let it flow and find a style that is right for the lenght and if need be use sunglasses for a headband works great looks cool...
Damage it !!! If it is braids you are talking about then you are also trying to get bald spots.
I say it wont damage it. U just have to keep it greased. I suggest not getting zillions -- especially if ur hair is kinda weak. I say this because I had them atleast 2 or 3 times and they seemed to break off my hair more than anything. Those little bitty braids just hang on ur hair for dear life and sometimes just break off. So I think if u are considering gettin braids get something like kinky twist -- u know the newer ones. And get like the medium size. Not the smallest and not the biggest (they're just ugly anyways). It worked for me.
I have black hair (ethnic) and I've found that the more I leave my hair alone, the more it grows. Last summer I had to get several inches cut off my shoulder length hair-due to excessive use of a blow dryer and curling iron. I got a weave sewn in and kept it for six weeks, I had it taken out and done again and kept it for four weeks. Between weaves I relaxed my hair and gave it a rest for a little more than a week. At the end of the summer, I took out the weave, had my ends trimmed, relaxed it and the growth was very noticeable.
If you go this route, keep your scalp clean and dry your hair thoroughly after washing to prevent mildew (within the weave).

It's true the more that you leave your hair alone..the more it grows....but it depends..on which....PROTECTIVE style that you do....some braids are good for some poeple and some are not....but the most important thing is the maintenance that you do on it....depending on your style....you don't even have to wear braids, knots, twists etc...It could be a bun...an updo....etc....believe me...check out this site..and it will explain a lot to you..plus give you styles..and tips on what to do...I'm in the process of growing mine out after a short cut too....

I wash my hair (almost mid back length) in the shower and also put conditioner on it -- then I immediately comb it while still in the shower and my hair is extremely wet. This action seems to decrease the amount of tangles in my hair. Is this a good thing or should I be doing something else to it? I find when it drys (and I do not dry it using a dryer) that it doesn't look or feel as dry and the ends don't seem to split as much. Does anyone else do this?
Back in the day I had waist-length hair, and I used a wide-tooth comb in the shower while rinsing out the conditioner, too! Just be sure to start combing from the ends up so you're not pulling on the hair shaft as much, because this leads to breakage and if you pull too hard, the hair can just come out. A good rule of thumb is, "If it hurts, stop." Lol.

I cut my hair chin-length a few months ago and it's now just past my shoulders and even now I continue to comb my hair in the shower.
Heat is terrible on your hair, no matter what products you use to "protect" it. Heat dries out the moisture, and burns the crap out of the surface, increasing flyaways and broken hair shafts.
In all actuality, brushing your hair dry does more damage, since most people don't take their time and fall for the wives tale about brushing your hair wet causing damage. When dry, your hair is stronger, but as mentioned above, dry hair running through a comb or brush creates friction, which creates static and heat, which damages the hair shaft.
I use conditioner but combing in the shower is normally used to prevent frizz on curly hair-not strait.
I have long hair. But you shouldn't comb it in the shower because it takes out more hair than if you just combed it when it is dry.

Yep, the shower thing works! I comb it while the conditioner sits on my hair ... makes it easier.
That's what I do. I comb it out while the conditioner is on it.
I like to do so with conditioner is still in. As long as you start at the bottom and work your way up gently, you'll do the least damage. Also, make sure you use a very wide tooth comb!
My wife and I both have tails over 2 feet in length. We shampoo condition and use leave in conditioner after the shower and before brushing. Different shampoos and conditioners give you different results.We use Pantene Pro

My hair is almost to my butt and extremely wavy. I usually blow dry it, then comb it out. It doesnt really break alot, but It is a task combing it out.

I have long hair, just below my shoulders now, use to be a lot longer %26amp; all I ever do is just shampoo %26amp; condition in the shower as normal but don't comb it while it's still wet, you can 'cut' or 'break' the hair if you do that, leading to a lot of split ends. I'm not sure why that's not happened already mind you lol. I usually just towel dry my hair very well then run a comb through it carefully %26amp; leave to dry.

I'd use conditioner too, and brush it as soon as I got out of the shower. If you don't mind brushing your hair in the shower, then keep on. I too, would let my hair air dry. Probably used a blowdryer once every couple years.
Everyone always gushed about my hair and it's health, even when it's been dyed and processed so much. It's simple everyone, unless you have a more complex hair style with lots of layers, just don't blow dry it.
i recently cut my hair because i donated it, but i had hair that went to my lower back, and i used to comb it while i was in the shower but my mom complained because when i would walk back into my room there would be a line of water dripping from my hair so i would comb it and put it in a towel to dry which caused it to be tangly. I ALWAYS comb my hair in the shower while the conditioner is on. I cannot comb my hair otherwise...I use an awesome shower comb and i'm good to go....I also have long hair to the small of my back.
I use conditioner plus a detangler(which works like a conditioner anyway) by Paul Mitchell...good product!
And I comb it through in the shower...presto...no more blow-drying tangles!

Supposedly, when your hair is wet it is at it's weakest. Using a brush damages your hair because all of the bristles are too harsh. A comb or pick has "fingers" that gently seperates your hair strands instead of pulling on them like a brush does.
You are much more likely to break your hair off. A comb goes through easier.
Because it can break your hair easier. If you use a plastic-toothed brush though (that's what I use) and you don't rake it too hard through your hair, you should be fine.
hair that is wet is a lot weaker then when it is dry. find a comb that has widely spaced teeth or buy a pick ( like and afro pick). those work the best on wet hair.

Because a brush doesn't get tangles out, it goes over the tangles.
When you comb your hair you should start at the bottom and work your way up. take a section of hair at a time that way you are not ripping through the hair. A clip works well for sectioning and keeping the combed hair seperate from the uncombed.
Do a little test, try combing your wet hair as instructed about and than next time brush the wet hair and you'll see for yourself why you should comb over brushing.
Also you should always use a leave-in-conditioner when combing. It will make a HUGE differents. OH, and that is a comb such as a small toothed comb, not a wide toothed comb or a pick.

Tease your bangs to get them puffy after you spray them w/ a little hairspray. Volumizing mousse should help make them thicker to help them stand up through your performance. To tease, just grab a section and hold it up and take a comb and starting near your fingers comb downward toward your scalp, then repeat kind of fast until poofy (don't comb in the up direction, just down, and keep picking up the same section of bangs if they come out of your fingers)
