Hair question-please please help!!?

i'm scheduled to get a perm tomorrow afternoon and i wanted to know if there is anything special i need to do with my hair before i go to my appointment-meaning wash it (if so how) or not wash it. also after i get my hair done what are some good products (gels/ shampoo/ conditioner/ serums/ combs -please give details and names) to invest in ? what are some tips to maintain the curls and keep my hair healthy?

Maybe this may/may not help though (Beware of the lengthy reading below):

Best : like the ppl above have mentioned check with stylist, if possible call the salon in the morning (tonight even if it's 6pm your time and the place is still open) and ask what you should do as different techniques and practices might vary by salon. Make sure he/she knows what you have done to your hair for the past while and hope he/she checks your hair texture etc before applying the correct perm solution.

Here are a few things I've heard thus far:

Don't add product to the hair the day of as it may compromise the perm solution effectiveness.

If you have lots of product you can gently wash but no conditioner esp heavy ones or the perm might not take at it's maximum.

Though it is best not to wash hair the night before/day off (esp if there's no product).

Hope you did not color you hair the day before since that will increase hair damage/breakage and the new hair color might change a shade or two etc.

Once you are permed don't wash, brush etc. or do anything to it for a few days (at least 2) that includes lots of sweat from exercising. The stylist may put some professional serum/gels/mousses etc with some fragrance before you leave. No color or other chemical or heat processes on hair for at least a week.

After a few days use wide tooth combs - the wider the better or better still finger comb. Pick combs can be handy also.

There are many products to choose from (again ask stylist) - some recommend biosilk products, aveda, schwarkoff, Paul Mitchell is not bad either. There's also curling balms from KMS e.g. that some ppl use. Not sure about drugstore brands but Pantene and thermasilk seems to be ok. Basically get a shampoo, conditioner, curl balm and/or leave in conditioner spray (small amount only), wide tooth comb, and blowdryer with diffuser (optional). If you have time in your busy schedule deep condition once a week or at least 2x per month. Sorry that I don't have much else to really add but hope it comes out nice.

The stylist should do it all for you that all you need to do is show up. ask them about products for your hair type and condition

Hair question-please please help!!?

dont do it. it will ruin ur hair!

Hair question-please please help!!?

you shouldn't need to wash it before, they will likely wash it for you and not use conditioner. (it helps the perm take better) your stylist should be able to recommend some good products for you. my personal reommendation for curly hair is Recoil by AG, its amazing stuff. hope this helps

Call the hair dresser and ask them. You need a care plan for afterwards, because perming your hair makes it very very dry.

If you are getting a perm, you do not need to wash it....

as for shampoo- maybe one for perms- you might ask at the salon...also a good conditioner....again ask at the salon...I like Aussie and Pantene products

Get Pantene, it's really good shampoo and conditions your hair really well. I have hair extensions, so they are very dry. So I use Pantene to make it look really sleek, shiny, and full of moisture.

you do not need to wash your hair before you get it done. ask the pereson that does your hair what products you should use on your hair.

Hair question-please please help!!?

No need to shampoo your hair your stylist will do that as part of the perm. So when you get ready in the morning just do whatever you normally would do when going to work.

I've been a licensed cosmetologist for thirty years.

Hope this helps.

Do not use conditioner on your hair from now till then....also make sure they use the coldest water on your hair when they rinse out the creamer after the perm(forget what that is called) if they use warm its so it takes part of the perm out so it will not last as long (guaranteed) also do not brush curly hair....only wide tooth comb when wet or before washing or after conditioner but not to style..scrunch and shape with finger rapping hair around fingers...

This question is...hard. I really can't say. One funny thing is, I remember watching a movie called Legaly Blonde with my girlfriend a couple months ago. A character said never to wash or wet your hair AFTER getting the perm, not sure about before.
